About one in 50 Canadian children aged 1 to 17 were diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder in 2019. Autism spectrum disorder is a neurodevelopmental disorder that includes what was previously called autistic disorder, Asperger's syndrome and unspecified pervasive developmental disorder. Two areas are more specifically affected in people with autism spectrum disorder, namely social interactions and communication as well as stereotypical behaviors or restricted or repetitive activity interests.

This workshop aims to better understand what autism spectrum disorder is and how the assessment of this disorder is carried out to arrive at a diagnosis. The distinction between autism spectrum disorder and social communication disorder will also be discussed.

This workshop is made possible thanks to funding from the Public Health Agency of Canada, as part of the national Healthy Early Years project of the Société Santé en français.
