The TEF Canada exam enables candidates to determine their level of French by placing them on a 7-level scale indexed to the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB). The exam is recognized by the Ministry of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for people wishing to have their French proficiency recognized as part of an immigration application or an application for Canadian citizenship. There are several versions of the TEF, including TEF général, TEF Canada and TEFAQ.

At Collège Nordique, we only offer the TEF Canada.

Version of the TEF offered at Collège Nordique

Collège Nordique  is an accredited center for the Test d'Évaluation de Français (TEF). The TEF is developed by the Chambre de commerce et d'industrie de région Paris Île-de-France (CCI Paris Île-de-France).
The TEF enables candidates to determine their level of French by placing it on a 7-level scale indexed to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB). It is recognized by the Ministry of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for people wishing to have their French proficiency recognized as part of an immigration application or an application for Canadian citizenship. There are several versions of the TEF, including TEF général, TEF Canada and TEFAQ. We only offer the TEF Canada.

TEF Canada

This version of the TEF is required by the Ministry of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) as proof of French language proficiency for people wishing to apply for permanent residence in Canada or Canadian citizenship. The TEF Canada consists of 4 tests:

  • Reading Comprehension (EC)
  • Listening Comprehension (OC)
  • Oral expression (EO)
  • 4 Written expression (EE)

Test mode

The listening, reading and writing tests are taken on a computer at the CNF. The oral expression test is coordinated by a panel of one assessor.

TEF Canada preparation

The CCI-Paris offers a TEF preparation course at prepmyfuture.com/tef. TEF candidates can take part in this course at a cost of 39€ (about $60). Free resource.

General terms and conditions

  • Cancellation of registration 15 days or more before test day: a $50 administration fee will be deducted from your refund.
  • Cancellation 14 days or less before test day: your registration fee is non-refundable.
  • Absence from tests: in the event of absence from tests for medical or professional reasons, you must provide Collège nordique francophone with a medical certificate or employer's attestation, which may allow you to carry over your registration fees to the next session. The College will examine each candidate's situation on a case-by-case basis.
  • In the event of cancellation, the CNF will propose alternative dates or refund the full examination fee.
